Jun. 7th, 2008 @ 06:15 pm Still Alive
Anyway this cake is great, it's so delicious and moist
Look at me still talking, when there's science to do
When I look out there it makes me glad I'm not you
I've experiments to run, there is research to be done
on the people who are still alive

And believe me I am still alive
I'm doing science and I'm still alive
I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive
While you are dying I'll be still alive
And when you're dead I'll be still alive
STILL ALIVE, still alive

On a random, more sensical note, yes, I'm still here.
I read everyone's updates:
Travis, I love your random gaming blurbs. Beyond Good & Evil 2! YES!
Kristin, sorry I haven't really been in touch lately. Brian and I have our own little place now which is an internet-less, cable-TV-less void so it's hard to keep up with people. I'm glad you had fun at ACen - I was stuck working all weekend and I was sad I couldn't go.
Sera - where are you? Did you move to Ohio or are you still around Sandwich-ish?
Justin - hello? Recent updates missing, Jen sad. I saw you called the other day, but the cell phone has been experiencing technical difficulties.

If anyone wants to go see Chronicles of Narnia, I love having an excuse to go see it again.

I'm having a small shindig at our new place on Friday June 20th. Happy Summer Solstice everyone! If you're coming, please call and let me know. Our house isn't that big so we can't cram as many people as we used to in to party. We do have a spare bedroom though if anyone out of town wants to come and crash.

That's all for now. I'm on vacation all this week, huzzah! Paid time off~!

May. 2nd, 2008 @ 07:38 pm You owe it to yourself to read this book.

And its sequel, Sword & Citadel.
This series mops the floor with any and every book I have ever read in my life. Never have I been so drawn into a storyline or so attatched to a character. Wolfe's symbolism is beautiful, his prose elegant and poignant, and anyone who doesn't read these books is a fool for not doing so.

I'm doing well, thank you!
The novel goes quite nicely - the current, validated word count can be viewed here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/93361
You can cheer me on here, or join the NaNoWriMo forums and cheer us all on there! Woo!
I'm about two days ahead wordcount-wise, and hoping to stay there.

Aug. 27th, 2007 @ 11:30 am Thank You
I have no idea who even reads this anymore - however, Brian and I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone that came to the wedding this weekend. Everything was absolutely wonderful, and we really appreciate those who came to celebrate with us. It seems like everyone really enjoyed themselves.

To those of you who couldn't make it, we're still having an open house/reception on Labor Day Monday, September 3rd, at the Lake Holiday Lodge in Somonauk. Please feel free to drop in, have some food and cake and have a good time with us. Call me if you need details!

And again, thank you so much, everyone.

Feb. 21st, 2007 @ 05:13 pm Here's what happening in my neck of the woods!
Worker Status: contemplative

To sum it up - not a whole lot.

I've been busy with work, as always. I'm coming to terms with the fact that I'm always going to be busy with work, and I'll just have to re-program the rest of my life around that fact.

I've started playing an MMO  - Final Fantasy XI Online -which is okay. I'm not addicted, I'm not spending every waking hour online, I'm not even that bummed if Brian wants to play for a night. I'm enjoying it just like any other game... and I'm also playing other games, specifically Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (again). So no social-life eating MMORPG game for me!

Planning for the wedding is going slowly. The confirmed date is Saturday, August 25th (which Brian has already forgotten.. sigh) and we'll be having it at the Bristol Renaissance Faire, as planned.

Things at work pretty much suck. I'm tired of angry people and idiots. I'm tired of idiots up the food chain that have never sold anything in their life. The only good thing is my manager is good, and the pay is half-decent. I wish I had something better, but I'm content with where I am. (I sort of have to be, I don't have any other choices right now.)

Anime Central is coming up! Hurray. I'm rooming with Krisitin so things should be awsome. I miss ACen! One day was not enough last year, but it was a much needed break.

I've continued to add to my rare game collection.

I re-read an excellent book the other day, The Devil in the White City, by Eric Larson. It's historical fiction based on fact about a murderer at the World's Fair in Chicago, and also the story of the Fair and how it was built. It's very interesting, especially when you go to places mentioned in the book and think about the things that happened there.

Brian and I went to the Shedd Aquarium Saturday after my brother's wedding shower, that was fun. They had giant fish the size of pillows that made me really, really hungry.

And that's about it for the random update.

Worker Status: Just fine!
So, um, number one is that Brian and I are engaged. We don't have a date for the wedding or anything, but we're really hoping we can hold it at the Ren Faire next summer. We'll see how things go. I'll keep people posted.

Number two is I'm having a New Year's party. RSVP either here, or my email, lady_bluesummers@yahoo.com, or my house, or my cellphone. And if people are on here who have people's phone numbers that I don't have access to, and you want to invite them, it's cool! Just let me know. If you're coming, please bring either some sort of snack or some sort of beverage (no alcohol, please) to share.

Dec. 20th, 2006 @ 01:44 am A really good day off
Worker Status: peaceful
I was glad to have today off - I spent it with Heather. I maintain that one of the best ways to spend a day is with your best friend.
Brian, Heather and I had a blast, or perhaps a blitz, or perhaps a bit of both last night, and I actually drank seriously for the first time. I've yet to figure out if I was drunk or not, but at any rate, we had fun - just talking, laughing, drinking, and hanging out and being silly. We stayed up late, then fell asleep and slept until somewhere around 11:30 this morning.
Heather and I opted to quest (well, we quested at my request!) for my desire this year: a B3 Shearling Bomber Jacket. We planned on hitting up the Army/Navy surplus store in Plano - lo and behold, they're closed Monday and Tuesday. So we went towards my work, in the hopes that either Tim (Tim C., not to be confused with Tim D., who I can't get along with) would know where another store was, or the phone book would tell us. Both sources of information told us the same thing - there's another surplus store on Rt 34 in Downer's Grove.
We got a little lost, and sort of ended up blowing a tollbooth due to lack of change and only having 2 dollar bills and 22 cents. No fear! I sent in the payment already, so no tickets for the Jen. Heather and I ended up at this really scary Subway in a nice part of town trying to get tollway change, and had an incident with an accented man working there: "We cannot charge you a dollar for the cookie!" Strange and amusing, yet disturbing. We scampered off in search of the military store, and finally found it.
Alas, no bomber jackets! But I found a sweet messenger bag - plain, khaki material with a black biohazard symbol emblazoned on the flap. It came home with me - I needed a new bag anyway! ^_^ We were told by the people working that Burlington Coat Factory (not to be confused with Burlington Stoat Factory) might have the jackets, so we drove back to Naperville, questing away.
And we were terribly disappointed. No bomber jacket that tickled my fancy awaited us within the confines of the Factory of Coats. Dejected and almost devoid of hope, we went to Best Buy in search of a phone set for Heather's mom. Lo and behold! The mom gave us an insight - had we tried Kohl's in our quest? We had not! Encouraged, we journeyed back across New York Street and settled into the parking lot at Kohl's, gathering our energy for another charge.
And we were turned away again, empty handed, with nothing but slightly sore feet and a complete lack of energy, accompanied by minor starvation, to show for our efforts. The bomber jacket, that elusive garment of attractive warmth, had eluded us yet again.
We settled for visiting Fruitful Yield, my favorite health food store. We got chocolate and snacks, and were then crushed to learn that our ally, Brian, was unable to join us for further questing due to work. (He volunteered to stay late for someone who was really sick - a kind deed, typical of such a noble knight.) Heather and I dined at Fuddruckers, which seems to be where we always end up eating when Heather comes home. And we aren't sure why that is, exactly, but it's always delicious, and sounds like a great idea at the time.
Re-energized by the food, she and I decided to brave the Scary Mall of Death, (also known as the Fox Valley Mall) and perhaps steal Brian away for his break time and buy him food.
As we neared GameStop, Heather's eyes fixed upon the sight of Wilson's Leather store. She suggested that we try there, in our futile search for my coat. Could it hurt? Of course not. It was on the way. We walked in the door, and the angels sang - the glory of Heaven unfolded itself in a beam of light, and shone upon the surface of the very item we'd been searching for all day. And it was on sale, for less than half price. Joy! Surprise! Delight! The warm feeling of a fangirl's glow! I even infected the cashier with a bit of my happiness and enthusiasm as I paid for my purchase and bought his add-on suggestion of a leather care kit. Hell, he probably could have sold me something I never would have used, and I would have bought it gladly, I was so happy.
A successful quest, and one that brought much joy, and not as much damage to my wallet as I'd feared. Huzzah! Huzzah! For leather coats and best friends!
The rest of the mall trip was also enjoyable. I was able to buy Heather a J-pop CD she wanted, and a new shirt she liked from Hot Topic. And I added another Resident Evil shirt to my collection - a long-sleeved one with the Biohazard pattern, a zombie skull, and two crossed shotguns on it. I also picked up a mini-statue of Bahamut from Final Fantasy.
All in all, an awsome day. I'm so glad I got to spend time with Heather, and that I finally got my bomber jacket - the exact, perfect one I'd been looking for.

Ugh, I really don't know what to do with my online time now that NaNoWriMo is over. I still have a lot of plot to get through before I'm ready to go for Lulu.com's free book. Bah.
I wish I had the motivation to finish things up, but I'm pretty wiped out from working so much. I am very much burnt out. The whole console launches are killing me, and I'm really sick of stupid people going off at me because we don't have systems. IT ISN'T MY FAULT. Please stop taking your idiocy out on ME.
I'm hoping to get people together for a holiday party. I'll let you know.

Woo hoo! Once again...

I'VE COMPLETED NANOWRIMO!!!
That means two years of insane novel-writing under my belt though.
I will be honest - last year's was terrible.
But this year's is good! It's funny, sweet, angsty at moments (angst is $1 extra, I'm afraid) and has been a pleasure to write so far. I intend on self-publishing, with the help of the Pledge to Publish forum members on NaNoWriMo's Naperville region forum, my most excellent and faithful reader K-chan (I could NOT have done this without you!), my beloved boyfriend Brian (who would laugh at the alliteration), and, hopefully, an artist to do some art for me! I'm still working on the artist part. (That's the hardest part! Haha, get it, artist, hardist..? Oh, forget it. You guys kill me.)

When I get publishing information up and running, as to where you can order it (if anyone is so interested), I'll post here.
And again, I say...

WOO HOO!!

So the novel isn't going well at the moment. I have a lot of catching up to do.

Thursday is my birthday. Er, would that be tomorrow since it's so late it's Wednesday? Well, whatever. I don't really want anything, which is depressing. All in all, I feel pretty unexcited about it. It's unusual for me, because I ususally have a party and get all my people together, but I can't this year. I'm kinda sad.

Call me crazy if you want.

I played Gears of War today, and I wasn't all that impressed.
The controls pretty much suck. The "taking cover" system sucked. Yeah, the graphics are nice, but when there are some nasty control issues, no thanks. I played about an hour or two, somewhere in between, and really wasn't impressed. Once again, to me, the hype completely blew the game out of proportion. What's so great about it?

Anyone?

Oct. 23rd, 2006 @ 03:45 am The weekly random update
Worker Status: Tired
Listening To:: Something from Halo 2 with lots of drums
Stumbled into a copy of Valkyrie Profile for the PS1... for a mighty $6.41. Yay for random finds at Video Villa! It hadn't been rented in over a year so they sold it to us without a fuss. I was happy - it seems like a pretty cool game from what I've seen Brian playing. I got it re-surfaced and polished, and it's in decent shape now. Some scratches, but the box and instructions are all there.

I played, and beat, Okami for the PS2, and I highly recommend that game to anyone who enjoys action/platform/RPG games similar to Zelda.

I'm bidding on Tactics Ogre on Ebay and hoping to high heaven I win it. But I'm sure I won't. That's the way it always goes. ::sigh:: Sadness...

Crazy game additions to my collection, and gaming news aside... I finally saw the first Resident Evil movie. I thought it was good. Most of it doesn't match up with the games/books/official timelines, but as a movie, it was cool. Good soundtrack, too - picked that up along with the Halo 2 Volume 2 soundtrack (even though Halo 2 is on my blacklist of games I'm sick of, the music is still good). I bought an HDTV two weeks ago and I like it. It's a small one as they go - 27", and it's not plasma, but I like it a lot. I've never had a new TV before so it's cool to have something I worked hard for and bought with my own, hard-earned money.

I miss having an art class. I hope to take one either spring or summer semester just for personal enrichment. I was thinking Ceramics II but we'll see, it might be photography.

Work is wearing me out - today and yesterday were my first days off in almost two weeks. I enjoyed them, and slept a lot. And that's really all I did. I'm still kinda tired. It's just burnout. Ah well.

That about sums up the infrequent update. Everyone take care, and I'll see you around.

Sep. 18th, 2006 @ 07:27 pm Vacation was nice
Current Location: Home again
Worker Status: Sick but happy!
Listening To:: Whatever the random Harvest Moon DS music is called
I GOT A COPY OF DISGAEA: HOUR OF DARKNESS! NYAA~H!

Now that I have that out of my system... my four-day Iowa vacation was quite nice. Brian and I sat around, took naps, played games, and overall really didn't do anything. Had a couple of drinks (literally, and over the course of about 8 hours), but that's not really doing anything at all now, is it? Found out Mike's Hard Lemonade doesn't taste much like lemonade - much too beer-y for my snobbish palatte. But the Hard Crisp Apple, now that's pretty tasty. Mike's has nothing on mudslides though. Mmm. Chocolate...

As briefly mentioned, I secured a copy of Disgaea, one of the hard-to-find PS2 games, maybe even one of the hardest-to-find. I was quite pleased as it cost me about 55 dollars, which all things considered (such as the fact that the disc is near mint), is a steal. Picked up the second one as well for about 35 or so - close to mint but it's got a scratch. Just one. If anyone who reads this knows anyone with Tactics Ogre that might be willing to make a swap... you know my cell number!

My Xbox 360 died. I have to ship it back to Microsoft tomorrow to get fixed. Damn and suchforth. But they're paying for shipping and repairs, who am I to complain? I have three or more games I need to play now anyway - Drakengard 1 and 2, Disgaea 1 and 2, Okami which is out in a few days, and some random others for DS (Harvest Moon, Mech Assault, and Cooking Mama). DS EATS MY LIFE! Curse you, Nintendo, for your innovation and creativity and enjoyable damn handheld unit I can take everywhere and buy lots of games for.

Video games really kill your entertainment budget! At least most of my reserves are paid for already.

I'm thinking I'll wait on getting a Nintendo Wii. Unless of course one falls into my hands, in which case I wouldn't say no - but I think I'll be just fine with my GameCube for right now. And by the time more games are out I wanna play, I'll be able to get a used one, and... you get the drift. Yah for used stuff! Cheaper = better.

I have a sinus infection. And allergies. Grrah. Meh. And other such sick unhappy whinings.

Bri secured himself a Super Nintendo! Woo hoo! ^_^ And Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, which I thought was cool. Did I mention he bought me a pudgy Bahamut keychain from Chocobo's Mystic Dungeon 2? It's.. so.. CUTE! Yah for pudgy Dragon Kings!

Picked up a sweet Encyclopedia of Mythical Creatures at Barnes & Noble from the bargain book section. It has more interesting stuff about interesting creatures than you could shake a stick at! A good addition to my mythic reference library.

NaNoWriMo is approaching on... some sort of wings! I'm looking forward to it. Especially if I get a new computer like I want to by then, because then Brian will be able to write, too!

Oof. I ran out of stuff to update on! Work is going just great - partly because I haven't been there, partly because a nasty conflict I was having there is finally resolved. YES! Happiness is non-conflict at work.

And hot apple cider.

Take care everyone!
